Answers to common questions about using Turf.

How Turf works

How does Turf know when it's the right time for a task?

Turf pulls in a range of environmental signals for your location — things like soil temperature, rainfall, evaporation rates, and accumulated heat over time. You don't need to know what any of these mean. What matters is that your lawn responds to these conditions, not the date on the calendar. Turf watches them so you don't have to, and surfaces tasks when the conditions are actually right.

What are timing windows?

A timing window is the period when conditions are right for a specific task. Windows open when environmental triggers are met and close when conditions change. Turf tells you when a window is opening, how long it's likely to last, and when it's closing — so you can act with confidence.

What is my plan based on?

Your plan is built from your grass type, location, and how much involvement you want — then continuously shaped by environmental conditions like soil temperature, weather, and how your lawn is actually progressing through the season. It's not a fixed schedule. As conditions shift, your plan shifts with them.

Your lawn profile

Why does Turf ask about my grass type and other lawn details?

Different grasses behave very differently depending on where you live. A warm-season grass in the South needs to be managed on a completely different schedule than a cool-season grass in the North — and two lawns with the same grass type in different climates can still diverge significantly. The details you provide let Turf build a plan that reflects how your specific lawn actually works, not a generic one-size-fits-all calendar. You can update your lawn profile at any time in the app's settings.

What data does Turf collect?

Turf collects your location (for soil temperature and weather data), lawn profile information you provide (grass type, lawn size, involvement level), and your task completion history. This data is used to generate and refine your personalized plan.

Tasks & guidance

How do I mark a task as complete?

Tap the task card to open it, then tap the "Mark done" button. The app will confirm your timing was right and tell you what to expect in the days or weeks ahead.

What happens if I miss a timing window?

Lawn care is cyclical — most missed windows are not the end of the world. The seasons keep turning, and most tasks will come back around. That said, some things genuinely don't work outside their window: applying certain treatments at the wrong time can be ineffective, or in some cases, actively harmful to your lawn. Turf will let you know which category a task falls into and what your options are.

How does mowing guidance work?

Mowing is the most frequent lawn care task, and most people already have the basics down. Turf doesn't try to tell you when to mow every week. Instead, it focuses on the transitions that actually matter: when to start mowing in the spring, what height to target as the season progresses, and when to wind down in the fall. Along the way, it can surface tips based on your grass type and conditions.

Account & billing

How do I manage my subscription?

Once the app is available in the App Store, subscription management will be handled through your device's app store. You'll be able to view, modify, or cancel your subscription directly in your device's subscription settings.

Can I delete my account and data?

Yes. You can request account deletion from within the app's settings. This permanently removes your account, lawn profile, and all associated data.
